Nigel Lythgoe, who was a key player in the early years of Fox’s “American Idol,” says he hasn’t been invited to be a part of the show’s revival on ABC.

“Extra’s” Renee Bargh talked with Lythgoe Wednesday as he hosted a Beverly Hills Commerce event just as news broke that Ryan Seacrest is in talks to return as host when the show comes back in 2018. Lythgoe, a former “Idol” executive producer who is now working on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” said of “Idol’s” return, “It’s very exciting for all the fans.” Noting that he has not been asked to participate in the reboot, Lythgoe added: “We’ll see what happens.”

Lythgoe commented on Seacrest’s possible return: “As long as Ryan can do it, you don’t want to kill the poor guy. He’s doing a radio show, he’s doing ‘Live with Kelly.’ This airplane is going to be flying back and forth at God knows what speed …”

Lythgoe also said of Seacrest: “He makes it look so easy and it isn’t, he’s got a lot of work to do if he’s going to do it.”

Responding to rumors that Kelly Clarkson may be a judge on the show, Lythgoe said: “She’s very smart and she’s been through it herself. I think she would make a great judge.”

  1. Move the show to New York…. Bring back Simon Cowell on occasion… It is easier for Ryan and gives the show a new energy…

  2. Mr. Lithgow pushed Jerry Lewis off of the MSS Telethon. Another Brit who thinks that he is smarter than any American…

  3. Jerry Lewis was the host of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Labor Day Telethon.

  4. Nigel lythgoe screwed up. Now I can’t watch “So You Think You Can Dance” one of my favorite shows because of that ignorant joke he made about my President, Donald Trump. Cracks like that get people hurt for example the congressman assassination attempt.
