A popular singer’s cameo appearance during Sunday’s season seven premiere of the HBO hit “Game of Thrones” became a focal point of scorn on social media, with the singer, Ed Sheeran, temporarily deleting his Twitter account.

Sheeran, who is also active on Facebook and Instagram, did not offer a public explanation for the move.

“The singer’s cameo appearance on ‘Game of Thrones’ on Sunday elicited a mix of criticism and praise on social media, prompting fans to speculate that he deleted his account because of the trolling he received over his performance,” CNN reports.

Sheeran’s Twitter account appeared to be back up and running today, but with the recent content deleted, and with only about 8,000 followers, down from the 19.6 million he had until Monday night.

“Sheeran has said before that negative comments directed at him has turned him off to the popular social media platform,” CNN notes.
