CBS has a project in the works that could end up competing with “American Idol,” “The Voice” and other singing competition shows, The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.

“The network is developing a singing competition series with manager and producer Scooter Braun, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. CBS declined comment,” the story reports.

The report adds: “The potential series is in the early stages; it’s unclear if the project is based on an original idea or an existing format, though sources say the latter is more likely. Also unclear is if Braun would have an onscreen role or remain behind the scenes as an executive producer.”

The report notes that CBS had a chance to pick up “American Idol” a while back but passed, with the revival instead winding up at ABC. Fox has also recently anted up for a new singing competition, “The Four.”
