An impressive lineup of Hollywood talent has been assembled for an upcoming adaptation of the Shakespeare play “King Lear.” The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Emma Thompson, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Watson and Jim Broadbent are all signed up for the Amazon/BBC production.

“Set in the fictional present, ‘King Lear’ sees Hopkins as the eponymous ruler, presiding over a totalitarian military dictatorship in England,” THR reports. “Emma Thompson stars as his oldest daughter Goneril. The ensemble also includes Emily Watson, who stars as his middle daughter, Regan, and Florence Pugh (Lacy Macbeth), who plays his youngest daughter Cordelia.”

Broadbent will play the Earl of Gloucester, with Andrew Scott cast as his loyal son Edgar and John Macmillan to play his illegitimate son Edmund.

Richard Eyre is set to direct the film, which is scheduled to start principal photography this month, THR notes.
