Weinstein Accused of Rape in New Yorker Story

Oct 10, 2017  •  Post A Comment

The New Yorker published its own bombshell story on Harvey Weinstein Tuesday, just days after a piece detailing sexual harassment allegations against Weinstein, published by The New York Times, helped bring about the downfall of the former movie mogul.

Weinstein was fired Sunday as co-chairman of The Weinstein Co. in the wake of the Times story, as we reported previously. The Weinstein Co. is expected to change its name, as we reported Monday, and a number of members of the company’s all-male Board have resigned.

Tuesday’s New Yorker piece, written by Ronan Farrow, ramps up the allegations against Weinstein, including adding rape to the growing list of alleged misdeeds.

Farrow notes that Weinstein has been “trailed by rumors of sexual harassment and assault” for more than 20 years.

“This has been an open secret to many in Hollywood and beyond, but previous attempts by many publications, including The New Yorker, to investigate and publish the story over the years fell short of the demands of journalistic evidence,” Farrow writes. “Too few people were willing to speak, much less allow a reporter to use their names, and Weinstein and his associates used nondisclosure agreements, monetary payoffs, and legal threats to suppress these myriad stories.”

Farrow details a number of individual incidents in the in-depth report, reporting: “Asia Argento, an Italian film actress and director, told me that she did not speak out until now — Weinstein, she told me, forcibly performed oral sex on her — because she feared that Weinstein would ‘crush’ her.”

Said Argento: “I know he has crushed a lot of people before. That’s why this story — in my case, it’s twenty years old; some of them are older — has never come out.”

Farrow adds in the report: “In the course of a ten-month investigation, I was told by 13 women that, between the 1990s and 2015, Weinstein sexually harassed or assaulted them, allegations that corroborate and overlap with the Times’ revelations, and also include far more serious claims.”

The New Yorker report adds: “Three women — among them Argento and a former aspiring actress named Lucia Evans — told me that Weinstein raped them, allegations that include Weinstein forcibly performing or receiving oral sex and forcing vaginal sex. Four women said that they experienced unwanted touching that could be classified as an assault. In an audio recording captured during a New York Police Department sting operation in 2015 and made public here for the first time, Weinstein admits to groping a Filipina-Italian model named Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, describing it as behavior he is ‘used to.’ Four of the women I interviewed cited encounters in which Weinstein exposed himself or masturbated in front of them.”

Farrow goes into detail about many of the alleged incidents in the article. Readers can click on the link to The New Yorker at the top of this story to read the full report.

  1. Interesting that a Hollywood Company has an all-male board. Where is that all-inclusiveness that we keep hearing about? How could the Clinton’s have worked so many years with someone who had no women on the board of his company? If there had been women on the board would this have been covered up for 30 years?

  2. The globe course participant began his career in early seventy’s. Better steer clear of casinos that don’t have a resort connected to them. The match area is the nicest it has at any time been at Binion’s.
