A series running on the Disney Channel has been banned in Kenya, with the country’s Film Classification Board slapping the ban on “Andi Mack” because of the show’s upcoming gay storyline, Variety reports.

The move is part of a crackdown in Kenya on LGBT content, with the announcement Monday coming just days after word surfaced that one of the key characters on “Andi Mack” would realize he is gay.

“Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the ratings board, issued a statement declaring that pay-TV and free-to-air stations were prohibited from airing content ‘that is likely to influence children’s perceptions negatively on the institution of family.’ Citing ‘public complaints,’ Mutua said in a Facebook post that the board ‘has a duty to protect children from exposure to harmful film and [broadcast] content,'” Variety reports.

Mutua’s post added: “Gay Content Will Not Air in Kenya…PERIOD!”
