‘Baffling’ Personnel Move for ‘Saturday Night Live’

In a staffing change that Vanity Fair is calling the show’s “most baffling move yet,” NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” promoted “Weekend Update” hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che to co-head writers.

“Confusingly, this choice feels like one that will move the show even further away from what made it successful last season,” Vanity Fair notes. “And even more bafflingly, this will be the second time in less than five years that Jost has been promoted to head writer.”

The report notes that “SNL” is coming off a great season last year, based on both “sky-high ratings” and a “pile of Emmys.”

“This season, however, has been a little bumpier — thanks to either Donald Trump fatigue or shifts in both the writers’ room and cast lineup,” the publication adds. “Perhaps as an answer to that, Lorne Michaels has promoted [Jost and Che] to the position of co-head writers, alongside current head writers Kent Sublette and Bryan Tucker.”

The Vanity Fair report goes into detail about other recent personnel moves at “SNL” that may or may not shed light on the latest decision. We encourage readers to click on the link above to Vanity Fair to get the full story.

  1. Don’t get your panties in a bunch–Jost and Che are great comics and joining the other two head writers only makes for more good comedy.
