‘Dr. Phil’ Accused of Supplying Drugs, Alcohol to Addicted Guests

The “Dr. Phil” talk show is being accused of endangering the health of at-risk guests, including providing at least one guest with drugs and alcohol in the green room before a taping and assisting others in their efforts to obtain drugs.

In a report published jointly today by the Boston Globe and the online news site STAT, former “Survivor” winner Todd Herzog, who has battled addiction, is among the “Dr. Phil” guests detailing allegations against the show.

Herzog, who appeared on “Dr. Phil” in 2013, was so drunk when he appeared on the show that he “had to be carried onto the set and lifted into a chair,” the story reports.

“TV viewers, however, didn’t see the setup for this shocking scene,” the report adds. “Herzog, who was battling alcoholism, told STAT and the Boston Globe that he was not intoxicated when he arrived at the Los Angeles studio. In his dressing room, he said, he found a bottle of Smirnoff vodka. He drank all of it. Then someone handed him a Xanax, he said, telling him it would ‘calm his nerves.’”

The mother of a woman who sought help from the show for addiction in 2016 alleges in the piece that a producer for the show took her daughter to Skid Row in L.A. to buy heroin, with footage of that trip reportedly airing on the show.

Another former guest alleges that a producer told her to go to Skid Row to buy drugs back in 2012.

Phil McGraw, the show’s host, wasn’t commenting on the report, but Martin Greenberg, a psychologist identified as the show’s director of professional affairs, denied the allegations in a statement, calling them “absolutely, unequivocally untrue.”

Commenting on Herzog’s allegations of being left alone with a bottle of vodka and given Xanax, Greenberg said in the statement: “We do not do that with this guest or any other.”

  1. If he’s a ‘doctor,’ I’m the next Albert Einstein. What a buffoon!

  2. And this is all true and even more. This guy as in Dr. Phil and his show will be saturated with a lot more chaos in a matter of time. If you think this is the end to this story think again.

  3. Remember, CBS has a TV show based on his earlier life. It’s called “Bull.” How prophetic! lol
