An actor with a long list of credits both on television and on the big screen, who was seen in recent years in high-profile TV shows including “House of Cards,” “The Wire” and “Oz,” has died. TMZ reports that Reg E. Cathey died at his home in New York after battling lung cancer. He was 59.

Cathey had an important recurring role on the Netflix drama series “House of Cards” as Freddy Hayes, the owner of Freddy’s BBQ, a restaurant frequented by Kevin Spacey’s character, Frank Underwood. You can see a little bit of his work as Freddy in the clip below.

He earned three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor for the part, from 2014-2016, winning the Emmy in 2015.
