Fox News Deletes ‘Darker, Gayer, Different’ Olympics Column

“Fox News has removed a column from its website that said it appeared the U.S. Olympic Committee wanted to change the event’s motto to ‘darker, gayer, different.'” the AP reports.

The report notes that the column, which was posted Wednesday and was removed today, Friday, was written by veteran Fox executive John Moody.

“He’s executive vice president and executive editor of Fox News, but it appears his chief duty now is to write online opinion columns,” the AP notes.

“Moody wrote that complaining that every team is not a rainbow of political correctness defeats the purpose of sports, which is competition,” the report adds.

Moody’s piece is quoted by media outlets as saying: “A USOC official was quoted this week expressing pride (what else?) about taking the most diverse U.S. squad ever to the Winter Olympics.” He goes on to downplay the claim because “no sport that we are aware of awards points — or medals — for skin color or sexual orientation.”

He’s also quoted writing that “insisting that sports bow to political correctness by assigning teams quotas for race, religion, or sexuality is like saying that professional basketball goals will be worth four points if achieved by a minority in that sport.”

The piece also reportedly asks: “Were our Olympians selected because they’re the best at what they do, or because they’re the best publicity for our current obsession with having one each from Column A, B, and C?”

Following the deletion of the piece, Fox News released a statement saying: “John Moody’s column does not reflect the views or values of Fox News and has been removed.”

  1. Moody — you suck … probably in the “Gayer” way as well …

    • Fo — I love it! Excellent riposte! Yessss! Thank you!

  2. Actually, I think Moody’s statement EXACTLY reflects the views and opinions of the minions at Fox News.

  3. Would you listen to yourselves. An athletic team needs to be selected by superior ability in that sport! End of statement!

  4. The U.S. should always send it’s best athletes to the Olympics. What does it matter their race or sexual orientation, or place of birth, or whether they are left handed or right handed or bald or have a full head of hair or if that hair is brown, red, purple, yellow whatever. We just need to send our best athletes. In my naiveté I thought the U.S. Olympic committee did just that. Perhaps the criteria for going to the Olympics has changed to now include Political Correctness. If that is true, the U.S. Olympic Committee should be upfront about it and announce that Political Correctness is part of the selection criteria. They can have any criteria they choose but they should announce it before the selections begin.
