Popular Game Show Being Revived — The Weird Part Is the Network It Will Be On This Time

A game show that had a run of six seasons the last time around is being “reimagined” with some of the key players back on board. In a twist that may surprise some readers, “Deal or No Deal,” which aired for four seasons on NBC before moving to syndication for two additional seasons, will run on the business news channel CNBC this time around.

CNBC Chairman Mark Hoffman announced the project today.

“Our primetime programs, with their focus on business and money, strive to be both entertaining and instructive,” Hoffman said. “Shows like ‘The Profit’ and ‘Shark Tank’ are built around high stakes and high rewards. Those same elements live at the heart of ‘Deal or No Deal,’ which is why we believe it to be a perfect fit.”

Howie Mandel will return as host and will also executive produce. Scott St. John, who executive produced and worked as showrunner on the original series, is also back for the reboot.

The original series premiered on NBC back in 2005, wrapping up its run in syndication in 2010. The show was based on a Dutch format.
