Why ABC's 'Castle' Just Got Renewed
The good folks at Nielsen, apparently in a generous mood, have decided to share some ratings data with the rest of the world this morning by releasing numbers for Monday night's primetime shows.
My colleague Sergio Ibarra will have a more detailed report later, but Monday's figures provide some clues to the fates of several shows:
—ABC's "Castle" popped big time, jumping to a 2.8/7 behind an average episode of "Dancing with the Stars." The series had been averaging just about a 2 rating in the demo. ABC executives were already leaning toward a renewal for the Nathan Fillion crime caper; assuming Nielsen doesn't change its mind and confess to some big mistake, "Castle" fans can start looking forward to season two.
—NBC's "Deal or No Deal" returned with a just-plain-said 1.2/3 at 8 p.m. If this doesn't convince NBC executives that the low-to-mid 2 rating averaged by "Chuck" is worth preserving with a third season, I don't know what would.
—"24" turned in a 3.3/8, which is about what it's been averaging in recent weeks. The show is often described by Fox as one of it's major tentpoles, but the show now regularly finishes third in the 9 p.m. timeslot, despite a huge lead-in from "House." Given the costs associated with the production of "24," I wouldn't be surprised if Fox used its upfront presentation later this month to announce that next year will be the swan song for Jack Bauer. At least on the small screen.

IF I WAS NBC I WOULD JUST GIVE UP CAN'T FIND A HIT NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO I KNOW IT BOYCOTT NBC NO MATTER WHAT !! IT'S A UNION THING AND IF NOT TOTAL PRODUCTS HIT THEM WHERE IT HURTS!! WE ALL SAY SO LONG TO NBC AND WITH THE SWITCH OF LENO IT WII NEVER AND I SAY NEVER MAKE THEY HAVE LOST IT!!

Castle is the best thing I've seen on TV for ages. GREAT chemistry, good plot lines, funny - love the guy living with mom and daughter and both characters are rich and wonderful. take a clue people. good writing, good casting, rich characters.

Let's hope so for Castle, cause it's definitely one of the best TV shows around!

If "CASTLE" doesn't make it for (at least) a second season, I will quit watching TV completely. (I still can't figure out why ABC gave "BOSTON LEGAL" the axe...)

Yeah!!!! Castle is coming back I am still very upset about Men in Trees I miss that show so much. At least have Castle for another season.............Good Donna
