Television icon Andy Griffith was buried less than five hours after the beloved "Matlock" star died, reports CNN.

Griffith’s body was lowered into a grave on Roanoke Island in North Carolina at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, the story says. Griffith had passed away at 7 a.m. at his home on the island.

"It had been planned for some time," a funeral spokesperson said. "This was the wish of his family." The representative declined to reveal where on the island Griffith was buried.

The speed of his burial struck some as unusual, the story notes.

"It’s not very common," said North Carolina’s Funeral Directors Association executive director Larry F. Stegall. "I don’t recall having heard of it, and I’ve been here 32 years."

As previously reported, Griffith, one of television’s most beloved actors, died at 86. He played Sheriff Andy Taylor on the CBS sitcom “The Andy Griffith Show” from 1960-1968.
