Kara DioGuardi, speaking on Ryan Seacrest’s syndicated radio show Friday morning, Aug. 7, said she was not brought on "American Idol" as an insurance policy in case judge Paula Abdul would leave at some point. Furthermore she said, "It’s such a loss for the show, such a loss for the contestants. She’s definitely the heart of the panel."

Kara’s remarks were reported by ETOnline. Kara also told Seacrest that she hopes Abdul will reconsider signing a contract and rejoin the show, ETOnline reports.

Separately, a TMZ video crew caught up with Paula at an airport. Paula is very nice to the boys from TMZ, but she doesn’t say too much about the situation. You can check it out on the video page of the TMZ website. (scroll down and look for Paula’s picture on the page…click on it and the video will play)
