In preliminary Nielsen ratings, NBC’s "The Jay Leno Show" got a fast start, doubling the network’s average rating over the past year in the 10 p.m. timeslot, according to TVNewscheck.com. Jay had an average rating of 12.1 and a 19 share in Nielsen’s 56 metered markets.

NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker, speaking at the annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference, lauded Leno’s Monday night debut, but said the show’s success will be judged over the long term, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Leno drew roughly 17.7 million viewers for a 5.1 rating/13 share in adults 18-49. according to preliminary fast national data from Nielsen, says TheWrap.com. Among adults over 50, the NBC show notched a massive 10.8 rating.

  1. The first thing I would change is the show’s intro…ugh! You’d think NBC could afford a better start to the show. Second, who designed and built the set for the show. Better yet, bring back his classy set from the Tonight Show With Jay Leno. A few cosmetics would make it a little different, but would keep it classy. The new set looks cheesy like it came out of the backroom of Kmart. Come-on guys, you can do better than that! Now to Jay himself. He is a good comedian and just needs time to polish his show and it should gain momentum. However, the writers on both Jay’s show and Conan’s Tonight really need to rev it up – geez, has NBC been hiring monkeys from the Los Angeles Zoo as its writing staff again? To be fair, I really think its good counter programming for the 10PM time period, I get tired of watching all those dramas and not having any real choice between the networks. So, it should work out fine for NBC. Wish Leno luck in his new gig!-)

  2. I DVR’R THE SHOW, AND AS I WATCHED IT LAST NITE
I UPPED THE RECORDING FROM ONCE, TO NEW SHOWS
THE SHOW GAVE ME A FEW LAUGHS I DID’T HAVE TO SEARCH FOR WHEN I GOT HOME, LIKE ANDREW SAID, GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE TO FEEL OUT HIS NEW SET , TIME SLOT ETC.
    I’M BEHIND YOU JAY

  3. I liked the format very much and I like the casual style where Jay talks to his guests “chair to chair”. He seems to be keeping the best of the old and adding new things (10 at 10)..those were fun watching Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
The only weak part for me was the announcing in the beginning…very dull and unexciting. What happened to John Melendez??? We need an announcer with much more enthusiasm to be the OPENER.

  4. Screw jay leno, Howard Stern Rules!

  5. Jay Leno should hang up his gloves. He is no Johnny Carson. He is not too pleasant to look at. Go back to movies or soap operas or one night stands, Jay. It will be tough but you will have a better chance in those venues… My condolence. Unless of course if you will be able to get controversial guests all the time. And accept the fact that it is your guests, not you that will make the show.

  6. Keep focusing on your blog. I love how we can all express our feelings. This is an extremely nice blog here 🙂
