Charlie Gibson’s final “World News” broadcast will be Friday, Dec. 18, TVNewser reports.

"World News" executive producer Jon Banner said that the show will spend Gibson’s last week as anchor “looking back at the stories Charlie covered, hearing again from some of the remarkable people he interviewed, and paying tribute to our friend and colleague, and the enormous contribution he has made to ABC News over the last three decades.”

Diane Sawyer will take over the anchor chair in his wake, "very shortly after Charlie’s last broadcast," according to an ABC News spokeswoman.

  1. Gibson’s departure will leave a major void in, not only ABC News, but news anchoring period. Diane is talented, but ill-suited for her pending position. She and ABC will regret the move. Unfortunately the Disney Network lacks a replacement from within it’s ranks.
I understand Charlie’s move on a personal level for he and his family. My internal sense of loss after the eighteenth aside, I want to say, “Thank you” for a job well done, Charles. Good night and good luck.

  2. Charles Gibson is the only reason I watched the evening news, on any channel. To bad, but I understand. I retired 6 years ago, when I was 54. Sometimes enough, is enough !

  3. I agree with your thoughts here and I really love your blog! I’ve bookmarked it so that I can come back & read more in the future.
