This morning, NBC President of Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios, Angela Bromstad, clarified the situation regarding Dick Wolf’s "Law & Order" franchise.
NBC gave the go ahead to “LOLA” (“Law & Order: Los Angeles”), renewed “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," and confirmed that the original “Law & Order” will not be coming back to a 21st season.
"L&O" will officially end on Monday, May 24.
Bromstad said in a statement, “‘Law & Order’ has been one of the most successful franchises in the history of television, which is why it is so critical that we continue this important brand and our relationship with Dick Wolf and his team with ‘LOLA’ and ‘Law & Order: SVU.’”
A report in Advertising Age by Brian Steinberg says he knows the real business reason the original "Law & Order" was canceled: NBC could no longer charge advertisers enough for the show. To read the details of his theory, click here.
Why did they cancel L&O but keep SVU? My God, that show is the most amateurly-written piece of garbage on TV today, and that’s quite an indictment. The bad guys might as well wear black hats, it’s so bad. Please tell me it’s going, too. Its message is so overly obvious, I refuse to watch it.
HEY! I love Law and Order SVU (and the hottie on it) but also love the original Law and Order. Can’t we all just get along?
After 21 seasons, I think it is time to end the Law and Order series. I loved to watch the show up to a few years ago when the line-up started to change. Maybe Sam could make a “guest” appearance on LOLA or LO SUV?
