AMC Cancels Original Series

AMC, the erstwhile all-movie channel that’s had great success with original series over the past few years, has finally cancelled one, James Hibberd at The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed blog reports.

Writes Hibberd, "AMC has cancelled a drama series — political thriller "Rubicon." [The series] will not continue following its sleepy first season, which averaged 1.6 million viewers and an ultra-soft 439,000 adults 18-49."

The article says AMC released a statement saying, ""Rubicon gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story and we’re very proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team."

AMC airs the Emmy Award winning "Mad Men’ and "Breaking Bad." It’s other freshman series, "The Walking Dead," has already been renewed for season two.

  1. And just as it was getting interesting. It doesn’t need another series, just another 2 or 3 episodes to close out the hanging threads.

  2. Agreed. It would have been nice to have a final resolution for those that enjoyed it and stayed. I will watch the ratings closer on AMC shows now before dedicating the time to stick with one.

  3. Just when I was beginning to think AMC was giving the competition a solid run for their money…

  4. Yes. it took me a while to get interested in the Rubicon storyline. I really wanted to like it at first, but the story seemed to be going nowhere for the first half of the season. It was just starting to get really interesting in the last couple episodes. Too bad there will be no resolution. The ratings must have been horrible if AMC gave up on it already… which seems really odd. The way the show was paced, you’d think they had some sort of guarantee of four seasons. It was very very slow…

  5. Rubicon was my favorite show on all TV and I liked it so much, I watched most episodes twice!!! Please at least finish it up. Great acting. Loved it.
