In Unorthodox News Commercial, NBC Urges Viewers to Tape the Evening News

NBC News may be running the most unorthodox news commercial this year, with "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams urging viewers to record the 6:30 p.m. newscast if they aren’t home to watch it live, reports the New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

The ad may signal that the TV industry is now viewing digital video recorders as friendly aids, rather than as foes, the story says.

“I just thought it was high time to acknowledge, in our ‘Nightly News’ promos, the way we live,” Williams said in an email, the article notes.

About eight million people watch "Nightly News" live, with about 370,000 viewers taping it and watching it via DVR, the article says.

  1. This is a major issue outside of the Eastern Time Zone as many local stations run the Broadcast Network evening news shows at 5:30 local time. Few of us are home that early from work.

  2. you are very talented.
