L.A. Congresswoman Maxine Waters Checks In About the Pending Comcast-NBC Universal Deal

Dec 20, 2010  •  Post A Comment

The office of Los Angeles Congresswoman Maxine Waters has released this statement about the pending Comcast-NBC Universal deal:

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) [has written a] letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski today, which she asked to be included in the public record of the merger along with a congressional transcript and a report prepared by her office. In the letter, Congresswoman Waters urges the FCC to: ensure that Comcast and NBC file their memoranda of understanding as official amendments to their merger application; clearly define diversity and justify the approval of the merger using its own precedent regarding the public interest and diversity; recognize that Comcast and NBC have failed to present diversity commitments in conformity with FCC standards; and impose spectrum subleasing conditions to allow for new market entrants.

  1. The Comcast-NBC Universal “Deal” should NOT be allowed.
If the term, “The Public’s Interest, Necessity and Concern” ever had meaning, it does on this more than anything in recent history.
Tear up the idea, the papers behind it and send all the “players” home today.

  2. The Comcast-NBC Universal “Deal” is about One Media, under Corporations, with profits for some and censored facts and propaganda for the rest of us. This is News Corporation’s partner in profitable political propaganda and the Big Lie of a ‘free’ press.

  10. And also the whole Tropicana debacle was left off why? Speaking of Tropicana, does the new Aol logo remind any person from the rejected Troipcana logo? Personally, I’m not a fan in the Aol rebrand. Though the execution and implementation are very good, the precise wordmark is boring, uninspired, and just sort of blah. That being said, I concur with a lot of the other rankings. I am nevertheless in adore with all the city of Melbourne is new identification.
