Fans Try Another Tactic In Campaign to Save Canceled ABC Soaps

Soap Fans United, a grassroots campaign to save "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" from ABC cancellation, shifted to a new tactic, going after the ABC affiliates in an effort to apply pressure to the network to reverse its decision, reports TheWrap.com.

At the network’s affiliate meeting in Pasadena, a letter was delivered Monday to the gathering that accused ABC Daytime President Brian Frons of "taking apart a decades-old tradition that can be updated and monetized and has built-in brand recognition and viewer loyalty."

The letter went on to point out what the group says is a flaw in Frons’ strategy: introducing two new–unproven–daytime talk shows at a time when Regis Philbin is exiting the Disney syndicated hit "Live With Regis & Kelly" and "The Oprah Winfrey Show" is shuttering after 25 years.

The letter continues, "Many of you are putting in an extra hour of news in place of ‘Oprah’ but without a solid daytime lead-in, the ratings are going to free-fall, with a domino effect from your newscasts to early prime to prime time to late local news and even late-night."

ABC had no immediate response to the fan effort.

  1. They need to contact the “General Hospital” fans, since ABC is negotiating to give Katie Couric that time slot.

  2. I do not understand why Brian Frons would replace shows that have been hits for 40 years with the same old s—. Bad move for his career. He will be the guy that killed the soaps and ABC daytime.

  3. I Will not watch any other shows in place of A.M.C. and O.L.T.L. We already have too many ‘Reality’ shows, talk shows and news. PLEASE keep our soaps on. I know sooooo many people that only watch ABC soaps. Please reconsider!!!!
