Which Show Is Late-Night’s Ratings Champ for the Second Season in a Row? (It’s Not Leno or Letterman)

One late-night show has now won the ratings battle for two seasons in a row — and it’s not NBC’s “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” or CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman.”

The ratings champ for now two consecutive seasons is ABC’s "Nightline," reports TVNewser.com. The news program won in all key demos, including total viewers and the key news demo of viewers 25 to 54, the story notes.

It defeated "Leno" by 99,000 total viewers and by 73,000 viewers in the 18 to 49 demo, and topped "Letterman" by 670,000 total viewers and 147,000 viewers 25 to 54, the story notes.

Comparisons among the shows are less than perfect, as the numbers are based on a 25-minute broadcast for the ABC show and on approximately 50-minute broadcasts for the NBC and CBS talk shows, the report notes.

  1. That’s because Leno is a tool, and Letterman has been phoning it in since his NBC days.

  2. No one is watching Nightline, they are just waiting for Jimmy Kimmel
