Disney Theme Park Ride Gets TV Treatment

Nov 14, 2012  •  Post A Comment

A popular Disney theme park ride is getting the television treatment, TheWrap.com reports. A pilot is being developed for ABC that’s based on the roller coaster ride "Big Thunder Mountain."

Chris Morgan of "Wanted" will co-write the story with Jason Fuchs of "Ice Age: Continental Drift"; ABC has ordered a script from ABC Studios.

It’s not known what the show will have in common with the ride, but the roller coaster’s theme is "a mining town being destroyed by a natural disaster after settlers desecrate sacred Native American land," the piece notes.

Film projects have been developed based on Disney rides, including the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise and the 2003 film "The Haunted Mansion."

I’ve ridden that ride dozens of times over the years and this news to me. I was always under the impression it was simply a “run-away mine car” ride.
