Fans of George R.R. Martin, the author whose books are the basis of HBO’s "Game of Thrones" series, are less than thrilled about the writer’s new deal with the pay-television network, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

HBO signed Martin this week to a two-year overall deal, as previously reported.

"While there are assorted cheers here and there, almost resoundingly the reaction has been along the lines of this: ‘Finish the books, George. Just finish the books,’" the story says.

The HBO show is adapted from Martin’s seven-book series "A Song of Ice and Fire," but only five of the seven novels have been published. The first three books were published within a year of each other, but the last two have taken a span of five years and nearly six years, respectively, the story says.

"The slow writing time coupled with Martin’s advancing age (he’s 64) has led many of his most passionate fans to worry that the author won’t be able to finish the series on his own," the piece notes.

Fans have taken to Facebook and Twitter to vent, with one fan writing, "George R.R. Martin STOP MAKING NEW STUFF AND JUST FINISH WHAT YOU’VE STARTED!!"

  1. Yeah, I’m happy for the man’s success, but… just finish the books, George.
