Special Report: 20th Anniversary

Mar 3, 2003  •  Post A Comment

As Electronic Media becomes TelevisionWeek, we celebrate two decades as the leading television trade publication. Our world has changed significantly over the past 20 years. Where once there were a few channels and shows got high ratings, there now are many channels and even hit shows attract smaller audiences. Viewers now have choices among over-the-air, wired and satellite delivery services offering high-definition pictures and multichannel stereo sound. What hasn’t changed is the central attraction-compelling shows with seductive themes and memorable characters. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, our new name and our much broader mandate, we take a look at the difference between television in 1983 and television in 2003 and share memories from current and past staff members. TelevisionWeek is about the future, but it carries on a proud legacy.
