It’s In The Cards

When it comes to influencing the White House, it’s all in the family, in more ways than one, for the National Cable & Telecommunications Association and Comcast Corp., the nation’s largest cable TV operator. As it turns out, both organizations have been rataining the lobbying services of Lorine Card behind the scenes for the past several years. Ms. Card, 36, is a longtime cable TV industry associate of NCTA chief Robert Sachs. But her bigger claim to fame is that she is married to lobbyist Brad Card, brother of White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card. Despite her White House connection, Ms. Card, reached while on vacation in Maine last week, said most of her lobbying on the industry’s behalf has taken place in Congress. “I represented the industry before my brother-in-law was in the White House,” she said. Added Mr. Sachs, “Lorine has been involved in the cable industry for a decade and was retained by NCTA…because she’s smart, of high integrity and knowledgeable about the cable business.”
