ABC Sets End Date for ‘Lost’

Confirming months of speculation, ABC has set an end date for its serialized drama “Lost” and announced plans to run the upcoming fourth season straight through beginning next January.
“Lost” will return for three more 13-episode seasons and will air its final episode in 2010.
Premiering the seasons in January will allow ABC to run the show straight through without repeats or interruptions, like Fox’s “24.”
Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse will continue to serve as executive producers for the duration of the series.
“This is a bold and unprecedented move for ABC,” said Mr. Lindelof and Mr. Cuse in a statement. “We always envisioned ‘Lost’ as a show with a beginning, middle and end. By officially announcing exactly when that ending will be, the audience will now have the security of knowing that the story will play out as we’ve intended.”
“Lost” premiered in 2004 and quickly became one of the highest-rated scripted series on television and a favorite among critics. During the current third season ratings have dropped sharply, however, especially after a lengthy winter hiatus. Mr. Lindelof and Mr. Cuse first announced plans to end the series at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour in January.
