Warner Pre-sells ‘Dark Knight,’ ‘Get Smart’ to Turner (Daily Variety)
Warner Bros. presold yet-to-be-released films “The Dark Knight” and “Get Smart,” among other titles, to Turner Broadcasting’s TBS and TNT, Daily Variety reports. “I Am Legend” and “The Bucket List” are also part of the deal. Cable networks have been rushing to snap up flicks before they open, the newspaper says.
‘Live From New York’ with More Hillary-Obama (DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com)
“Saturday Night Live” will open with a skit poking fun at the debates between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama again this week, Web site DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com reports. The debate sketches are written by Jim Downey, an “SNL” vet who was fired in 1998 for his politician-skewering skits before being rehired two years later, the Web site says.
Bertinelli Talks With CBS About Syndicated Show (New York Post)
One time “One Day at a Time” star Valerie Bertinelli is talking to CBS TV Distribution about doing a syndicated talk show, the New York Post reports. Ms. Bertinelli has recently written an autobiography about her breakup with rocker Eddie Van Halen and is acting as a weight-loss spokeswoman for Jenny Craig.
Zucker Downplays Downloads in Harvard Speech (Daily Variety)
NBC Universal Chief Executive Officer Jeff Zucker said in a speech at Harvard Business School that revenue from online video distribution will be immaterial for about five years, Daily Variety reports. NBC’s online distribution channels, including Amazon.com’s Unbox, haven’t been as successful as Apple’s iTunes, from which NBC removed its shows last year, the newspaper says.
CBS Orders Pilots of Psychic, Romantic Dramas (Daily Variety)
CBS ordered three drama pilots, including “NY-LON,” which features a couple in a New York-to-London relationship, and “Mythological X,” about a woman told by a psychic that an ex-boyfriend is her future husband, Daily Variety reports. CBS also picked up “Can Openers,” whose executive producer is “Rescue Me” producer Jim Serpico, the newspaper says.
NBC Hopes Fans Sing Along With ‘Heroes’ (The Hollywood Reporter)
NBC Universal will release a soundtrack album to dormant series “Heroes,” featuring artists such as Wilco and Panic! At the Disco, the Hollywood Reporter says. The CD will be sold at Best Buy starting March 18, while five music-video montages accompanying the songs will be available via streaming on MSN, the newspaper says. New episodes of “Heroes” won’t return until fall.
Oscars Producer Cates Sorry For Not Celebrating Whoopi (People.com)
Academy Awards producer Gil Cates apologized to Whoopi Goldberg for leaving her out of a montage of former hosts at last week’s ceremony, People.com reports. On “The View,” Ms. Goldberg, an Oscar winner as well, called Cates a “gentleman,” the Web site says.
‘Quarterlife’ Co-Creator Entirely Blasts Jump to Broadcast (The Hollywood Reporter)
“Quarterlife” co-creator Marshall Herskovitz decried the show’s jump to NBC from the Internet, saying “it’s too specific” for broadcast, the Hollywood Reporter says. The show is likely to be cancelled before it airs again. Speaking at the Harvard Business School, Mr. Herskovitz said he expects the show to go to cable next. NBC Co-Chair Ben Silverman said the show was worth broadcasting because it spiked NBC’s Web hits and was inexpensive to produce, the newspaper reports.
CMT Tabs ‘Sexiest’ Host for ‘Duet’ Series (Daily Variety)
Rossi Morreale, People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2003, will host the country-music reality show “Can You Duet” on CMT, Daily Variety reports. Mr. Morreale previously hosted shows in syndication and on cable networks Style, Travel Channel, TLC and G4..

Buddy Miles, Who Played With Hendrix, Raisins, Dies at 60 (Los Angeles Times)

Buddy Miles, drummer in Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsies who later provided lead vocals for the California Raisins TV commercials, died of congestive heart failure at age 60, the Los Angeles Times reports. Mr. Miles, whose best-known song was “Them Changes,” did jail time before being asked to sing “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” for a California Raisin Advisory Board ad campaign in the late 1980s, the Times says.
