A Rubik’s cube whiz, a wildebeest and a laughing baby took home category honors at the second annual YouTube Video Awards, the company announced Friday. The video-sharing Web site created the awards, which recognize achievements in user-generated content, after it was acquired by Google in 2006.
“In 2007 the YouTube community showed the world that there’s something for everyone on the site,” said YouTube community manager Mia Quagliarello. “This year’s YouTube Video Award winners not only include entertainers, they include those who served as a mouthpiece for everyday people, those who inspired and those who informed.”
Users voted on a list of six nominees per category posted to a Video Awards page on YouTube by community managers. YouTube said that it chose the nominees based on a variety of site metrics including a combination of favorites, comments, views and general impact. The winners, by category, are below.
