On the Horizon: Rosalyn Durant

Jul 20, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Ten years after a stint as an intern in ESPN’s affiliate sales and marketing division, Rosalyn Durant sits atop the heap as VP and general manager of ESPNU. The longtime ESPN employee oversees that college-themed channel, which features extensive studio programming and live coverage of college games, including football, basketball and other Olympic sports from more than 20 Division I conferences.
She is responsible for setting the strategic direction for ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network, including overseeing all programming and leading the interdepartmental team responsible for the continued growth and development of the network and related multimedia initiatives.
“College sports is the foundation that our company was built upon, and I’m excited to be leading the strategic direction of a brand that is devoted to that sports category and its fans,” Ms. Durant said.
Since ESPNU’s launch in March 2005, the network has grown from 2.5 million households to more than 20 million, having secured distribution agreements with Charter, Cox, DirecTV, EchoStar’s Dish Network, AT&T, Insight Communications, Mediacom, Time Warner, Verizon and hundreds of smaller affiliates.
“Rosalyn’s combined work experience with our programming and affiliate sales teams will serve as a great attribute in the continued success story of ESPNU,” David Berson, ESPN executive VP of program planning and strategy, said when she was hired in April. “Her proven track record and focus on leadership, team building and relationship management will greatly benefit our ESPNU efforts going forward.”
From the trenches as an intern, Ms. Durant quickly moved up the ladder; she most recently was ESPN’s VP of programming and acquisitions for a variety of sport categories.
Ms. Durant graduated in 1999 from the University of South Carolina.
