CBS Starts ‘Survivor’ a Week Later With 2-Hour Premiere

Aug 25, 2008  •  Post A Comment

“Survivor” is getting supersized.
CBS has decided to expand the season premiere of its long-running reality show to two hours, the first time the series has kicked off with an extended episode. As a result, CBS is pushing the show’s premiere date to Sept. 25, a week later than planned.
The move follows CBS’ earlier decision to delay the season premiere of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” until October because of the presidential debates.
It means the “Survivor” premiere will now air in-season rather than starting a week before the official start of the 2008-09 campaign.
“CSI” still will get some exposure during premiere week. The Eye network plans to repeat last season’s “CSI” finale at 10 p.m. Sept. 25, immediately after the “Survivor” premiere.
The upcoming “Survivor” season is also the show’s first in high-definition.

  1. How much longer are they going to keep Survivor on? Surely the concept has lost its novelty after all these years.
How about Survivor: Armageddon to put us out of our misery?
As a postscript they could repeat the first episode of the now cancelled Jericho and say it’s the last episode of Survivor (change some of the dialogue of the characters by dubbing over).
Then the could cut to Charlton Heston at the end of the (original) Planet of the Apes crying out “They really finally did it. **** you all to hell!”
    LOL

  2. Hey stupid. They’ve done super-sized premieres before, on Survivor: The Amazon and Survivor: Pearl Islands Panama!

  3. What’s disappointing to me is the interview process for the new shows. So many of us sent in interview packets expecting a fair process of selection, and then the media says that the selections are “fixed” and common folk have almost zero chance of being a contestant. We have written CBS numerous times asking where they are in the interview process with zero response. At least give us a polite “declined” message or tell us where they are in the process. What are everyone else’s experiences? Has anyone heard of a single interview scheduled for August as the application states?

  4. Survivor is my family’s favorite show.
I lot of people don’t like it because they never take time to invest in it. They think the show is all about games and running around and eating bugs. As a die-hard fan, I’ll tell you what it’s really about:
    Human reactions and society’s reality.
The whole show is centered on the natural tendencies of human nature. What on earth could be more interesting than THAT?
If you want to bash on a show that goes on too long, try something as monotonous and repetitive as American Idol.
