Food Net Tries New Recipe With Chef Jeff

Sep 24, 2008  •  Post A Comment

A new Food Network series shows how far the network has moved from offering recipes and kitchen advice to providing lifestyle programming.
“The Chef Jeff Project” features Jeff Henderson, a former prison inmate turned executive chef. In the series, which launches Oct. 12, he tries to use cooking as a way to help six struggling young adults steer away from a life of trouble.
“Chef Jeff has an amazing story that will inspire not only the young adults in the show, but viewers across the country,” said Bob Tuschman, senior VP for programming and production at Food Network. “This type of show only comes along once in a while and we are proud to bring a unique, touching, exciting show like this to our Food Network viewers.”
Mr. Henderson discovered cooking while he was incarcerated for drugs, and it helped turn his life around. In 2001, he became the first African American chef de cuisine at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. His story was told in the best-selling book “Cooked,” which is being turned into a major motion picture.
Mr. Henderson’s first cookbook, “Chef Jeff Cooks: In the Kitchen With America’s Inspirational New Culinary Star,” is being published by Scribner in October.
In his new series, Mr. Henderson tries to use the lessons he’s learned to connect with six troubled young adults who have gone down a similar path and now have a strong desire to improve their lives.
The group, nicknamed “the Crew,” work under Chef Jeff’s watchful eye at his new Los Angeles-based catering company, Posh Urban Cuisine. They try to remake themselves and pursue success, focusing on appearance, attitude, respect, motivation and behavior.
In the show’s episodes, members of the Crew handle catering assignments from high-profile clients such as the cast of “General Hospital” and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and share meals with Mr. Henderson and his family, testing their ability to thrive with their new skills in new surroundings.

  1. Dear Mr. Henderson ,my name is Regina and I must say that you have touched my heart in a way that is hard to describe because so many people are out for themselves now a days ,it a blessing to be able to see quality shows these days that show genuine interest in other people’s lives I don’t condemn you for your pass it’s not my place to do so anyway ,but I do priase you from being able to learn a lesson from your pass experiences that’s what makes you different ,some people don’t learn from their mistakes but you did and your saying loud and clear for everyone to know and that takes alot of guts to put yourself out there like that ,it took a lot of determination for you to get where you are now,it just was not handed to you ‘but you hung in there.keep you head up and continue to make me so very proud of you ‘keep your bright light shining and keep pushing others to have faith in themselves .You are such an inspiration to so many people. It would be a joy to someday meet you,but if I don’t Iwant you to know you have a friend that’s in your corner keep up the wonderful work you’re doing and never look back.Regina .Gordon . . gordonsunhine@aol.com
