Local Broadcasting Pioneer Pat Polillo Dies

Former KYW-TV Vice President and General Manager Pat Polillo died Tuesday of brain cancer. He was 75.
Mr. Polillo worked in local television for almost four decades, from 1961 to 1998, serving as news director at stations in Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco and Atlanta.
In addition to his work as vice president and general manager for KYW-TV in Philadelphia, Mr. Polillo also served in the same position at KPIX-TV in San Francisco.
Mr. Polillo, who won two Emmy Awards, is credited with introducing the use of minicams to cover live events, implementing investigative reporting teams and transforming station editorials to on-site reports.
