"Cougar Town" has promoted writer and producer Blake McCormick to showrunner, replacing Ric Swartzlander, who ran the show last season, reports Deadline.com.

The show’s creator, Bill Lawrence, left "Cougar Town" after its third season to shift into his overall deal at Warner Bros. TV, but ended up working on the show during its fourth season because he didn’t have a series on TV, the story notes.

But with the upcoming fifth season, that’s unlikely since Lawrence has three pilots in contention, "Undateable" at NBC, "I Suck at Girls" at Fox and "Ground Floor" at TBS.

McCormick, who previously served as a co-producer on Fox’s "King of the Hill," has worked on "Cougar Town" for the past three seasons.
