Some TV stations appear to be about to go dark for subscribers to Dish Network. TVNewsCheck.com reports that the Graham Media stations — WDIV-TV in Detroit; KPRC-TV in Houston; WKMG-TV in Orlando, Fla.; KSAT-TV in San Antonio; and WJXT-TV in Jacksonville, Fla. — have announced that they will go dark.
The website quotes Graham Media saying: “The satellite provider has been unwilling to strike a reasonable [retrans] deal.” The company adds: “We’ve been working very hard to negotiate a fair deal for everybody. We’ve negotiated dozens, if not hundreds, of similar deals over the years with other providers and have never been taken off the air, so that should tell you something about where the issue lies.”
Another station that appears to be involved in the issue is WPLG-TV in Miami, which was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway last year from Post-Newsweek before it evolved into Graham Media.
TVNewsCheck notes that the TV stations have set up a website, www.savemychannel.com, to help customers negotiate the situation.
