CBS is pulling the plug on a prime-time drama series. The network announced that the season three finale of “Under the Dome,” which airs Sept. 10, will be the series’ last episode.

The network promised that many of the mysteries surrounding the dome over the town of Chester’s Mill will be resolved in the finale.

“In the series finale, when the Dome comes down, many questions about its origin and power will be answered, as two groups of residents engage in one final conflict that some won’t survive,” CBS said in its announcement.

The announcement also notes: “All three seasons of ‘Under the Dome’ will continue to be available for unlimited streaming to fans and members of Amazon’s Prime Video, which has been the exclusive subscription video on demand (SVOD) home for ‘Dome’ since the show premiered.”

CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler added: “Two years ago, ‘Under the Dome’ broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world. ‘Dome’s’ event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of ‘Extant’ and ‘Zoo.’ We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”

The series, based on the Stephen King novel, has been one of the most-watched shows on TV for the past three summers, CBS noted.

  1. under the dome completely blew it this season with so much violence and a completely dark place. it seems like Hollywood just keeps pushing the violence envelope to the point of no return. then they kill the show because “viewers lost interest”. Still waiting for the morons to bring back Forever. Hit show and they killed it. WHO IS RUNNING HOLLYWOOD and how do we fire all of them????

  2. This season had way to much going on to keep up with…I lost interest when it starting going way out in left field.
