‘Game of Thrones’ Author George RR Martin Grumbles About the Show

After a series finale that disappointed many “Game of Thrones” fans, the show’s author says he will be providing his own ending to the saga.

“Author George RR Martin has big plans for the final chapters of his seminal book series — and he claims the controversial finale written by DB Weiss and David Benioff ‘doesn’t change anything at all’ in terms of how he plans to wrap up the legend of Westeros,” The New York Post reports.

Martin is quoted telling the U.K. publication The Guardian that the show actually got in the way of his writing the book. “There were a couple of years where, if I could have finished the book, I could have stayed ahead of the show for another couple of years, and the stress was enormous,” he said.

Martin added: “I don’t think [the TV series] was very good for me. The very thing that should have speeded me up actually slowed me down. Every day I sat down to write and even if I had a good day … I’d feel terrible because I’d be thinking: ‘My God, I have to finish the book. I’ve only written four pages when I should have written 40.’”

The fame brought by the TV show’s success hasn’t all been good for Martin either, according to the author, who says it’s hard to go out in public these days.

“I can’t go into a bookstore anymore, and that used to be my favorite thing to do in the world,” he said. “To go in and wander from stack to stack, take down some books, read a little, leave with a big stack of things I’d never heard of when I came in. Now when I go to a bookstore, I get recognized within 10 minutes and there’s a crowd around me. So you gain a lot but you also lose things.”

  1. He can’t go into a bookstore anymore but I bet he could rent out his own private time in the bookstore.

With the millions he’s earned I bet he could pay three or four employees’ salaries to provide a private shopping experience some morning or evening.

“Poor me, I and my millions of dollars can’t go anywhere anymore.”

    • People are people and what he was used to doing he is no longer able to do. You think the fame and the money should suffice and he should just shut up? You really think casually renting private time at a store nonchalantly is a normal thing to do? Kind of takes the spontaneity out of the picture, not to mention who wants to be the kind of person who rents out stores to avoid rubbing shoulders with the ‘common folk?’

      Try on some shoes, bro.
