Trade Pub Variety Starts Building Pay Wall For Its Web Site Starting Today TVWeek; Variety.com

Starting today, Dec 10, the venerable Hollywood trade publication Variety has started to rebuild a pay wall around its site.

Though the site has been free to all comers for several years now, it had tried--and abandoned--a pay wall model before.

Eventually, non-paying subscribers to Variety will only be able to get to 5 pages a month for free.

Initially, starting today, one in 10 users at variety.com, selected at random, will be asked to register to continue viewing content at the site. They will get the prompt after seeing two pages for free.
