Television viewing in the home has reached an all-time high, suggesting that new ways of watching TV through iPhones and other Internet-connected devices, is spurring TV consumption rather than cannibalizing it, the Hollywood Reporter reports.

Very small screens have had led to an unexpected twist, the New York Times reports.

While TV executives had expected consumers would use their iPhones to watch short clips, it turns out that many smartphone owners use them to watch entire episodes or long movies.

According to Nielsen tracking, TV viewing in the home averaged 5.13 hours per viewer per day in the fourth quarter of 2009, compared with 4.86 hours during the same period in 2007.
