Cowell Reportedly Has Troubled '80s Pop Icon Set to Take 'X Factor' Judge's Chair NY Post
A singer who rose to fame with a string of 1980s hit singles as part of the pop duo Wham! but more recently has made headlines mostly in the tabloids is apparently lined up to be a judge on Simon Cowell's American version of "The X Factor," reports the New York Post.
The Sun in England initially put forth the idea that the panel for "The X Factor" would include ‘80s pop icon George Michael, along with Simon and singer Cheryl Cole.
Michael's camp has denied the story, but the Sun quotes a source saying, "George is going to take the job. It's an amazing opportunity to get back in the limelight and reverse his recent bad spell. Simon knows that Americans love him. He is as big in the U.S. as he is over here. He is a true star and has the wit and experience for the job. It's the perfect platform to resurrect his career."
Michael could have trouble with his U.S. visa after spending time in jail earlier this year for driving under the influence of drugs, the Post reports.
Other stars who were contacted about the job, according to the Post, included Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and Noel Gallagher of Oasis.
