Emmy-Winning Actor (and Oscar Nominee) to Star in New Cable Series From Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun THR's Live Feed blog
A new series from Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun that will star an Emmy-winning and Academy Award-nominated actor has been given the green light, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed blog.
"Alphas," an action show about apparently ordinary people with special abilities that will feature actor David Strathairn, has been given the green light by Syfy, the article says.
The project comes from writers Zak Penn of "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Michael Karnow, the story says.
Syfy has ordered 11 episodes as well as the 90-minute pilot directed by "Lost" director and executive producer Jack Bender, the article adds. The production, from Universal Cable Productions and BermanBraun Television, will start in early 2011 in Toronto and the show will debut next summer, it adds.
Strathairn won an Emmy earlier this year for Supporting Actor for his performance in the HBO movie "Temple Grandin." He was nominated for an Oscar as Best Actor for his portrayal of TV newsman Edward R. Murrow in the 2005 movie "Good Night and Good Luck."
