Former Television Chef Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison in Plot to Kill His Wife AP
A former television chef was sentenced to nine years in prison on Monday, Dec. 17, 2010 for his role in a plot to kiss his wife, the Associated Press reports.
Juan-Carlos Cruz, who was once a chef on "Calorie Commando," gave his wife a wink and a smile as the sentence was handed down, the story reports.
Jennifer Campbell, his wife, was seated in the front row of the courtroom with her attorney during the brief hearing.
Cruz, 48, had pleaded no contest to a charge of solicitation of murder for trying to hire two homeless men to kill her, the article says.
Cruz, a former pastry chef at the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, starred in "Calorie Commando" on the Food Network, although the show ended in 2006, the story notes.
