Couric’s Next Move Is Almost a Done Deal

Katie Couric, who signed off on her final broadcast with “CBS Evening News” last night, is close to signing on with a new network, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

A deal with ABC is reportedly almost done, with Couric to host a syndicated afternoon talk show starting in fall 2012, the story says.

CBS has the right to match any offer made to Couric before her contract ends on June 6, and her agreement with ABC isn’t expected to be finalized for at least a week, the piece notes. Up until recently, CBS had also been trying to distribute Couric’s proposed show, the article adds.

Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger has been involved in the negotiations, partly because he’s looking for a program to fill the slot left vacant by the departure of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which will broadcast its final episode on Wednesday, the piece notes.
