As Bloomberg Battles Comcast Over Channel Placement, Another Cable Channel Appears to Have a Stake in the Fight

Bloomberg’s fight with Comcast over channel placement has drawn the interest of another party, reports Joe Flint in the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog. The interested party is Current TV.

Current has the goal of becoming a news channel that will rival MSNBC, and one issue it must solve is to improve its distribution. Bloomberg is arguing that its cable channel should be moved closer to CNBC, owned by Comcast, claiming that as part of the regulatory approval the company is required to place independent news outlets such as Bloomberg TV closer to or very near CNBC, the story says.

But an issue for Current TV is its independence, as Comcast owns a 5% to 10% stake in Current, the article notes. DirecTV has a similar ownership stake, the story says.
