Walt Disney Co. has entered into a deal with Comcast Corp. to provide access to the Disney group of channels to Comcast customers via their mobile devices and through on-demand services, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Among the offerings will be popular channels ABC, ESPN, ABC Family and Disney Channel.

The Times reports: “The expansive deal, announced Wednesday, will allow Comcast’s more than 22 million cable customers who sign up for its Xfinity service to watch the Disney channels live or on-demand either while they are in their homes or on the go via their tablets or other portable devices.”

The agreement marks the first time the cable company “has agreed to pay for local retransmission of ABC-owned TV stations. For the last three years, broadcasters have been negotiating with cable companies to pay for signals that they previously provided for free,” the Times piece notes.

Financial terms of the agreement were not revealed, but the companies said the new long-term distribution pact encompasses 70 services.

  1. And how much of this charge is being levied against all customers? Again those that don’t use a service are being charged for it in thier monthly bills.
