NBCUniversal Attacked on One-Year Anniversary of Comcast Buyout

With the one-year anniversary of the government’s approval of the Comcast-NBC merger, a rival media company is reminding regulators that it believes Comcast has failed to meet government requirements, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

"Marking yesterday’s one-year anniversary of the FCC’s Order approving Comcast’s blockbuster acquisition of NBCUniversal, it’s time for Comcast to live up to the bargain it accepted to secure its merger," said Bloomberg LP’s government affairs chief Greg Babyak, according to the story.

Bloomberg, whose Bloomberg Television cable network competes with Comcast’s CNBC, has argued that the government’s approval requires Bloomberg to be moved into the same cable "neighborhood" as CNBC, the story notes.

A Comcast representative responded by saying, "If Comcast were forced to do what Bloomberg is asking the government to mandate, millions of customers would be subject to disruption and confusion required by massive channel realignments to benefit a thriving $30 billion media company," the story adds.

  1. Maybe Comcast should have made that point last year during the hearings, instead of waiting until they got the deal they wanted.
