Code Blue at ABC Daytime: One Show Dies, but ‘General Hospital’ Survives! And ‘GMA’ to Expand With Afternoon Edition

ABC’s only remaining daytime soap, "General Hospital," has been renewed, Deadline.com reports. Furthermore, the show that was created as a replacement for one of the network’s canceled soaps has itself been canceled, the story notes.

The canceled show is "The Revolution," a talk show that was put on the network’s schedule after ABC canceled "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" last year, the story notes. That decision enraged soap opera fans, and raised concern about the fate of "General Hospital.”

In addition, ABC plans to add an afternoon edition of "GMA” for a summer run. Tentatively titled "GMA in the Afternoon," the show will hold the time slot previously held by “The Revolution” until Katie Couric’s new syndicated talk show premieres in the fall, the piece adds.

Couric’s “Katie” is set to premiere Sept. 10. It will be preceded by a nine-week run for “GMA in the Afternoon,” launching July 9.

  1. Funny thing is most of the All My Children Fans are watching the CBS soaps since our favorite actors have moved to CBS. What has ABC gained…poor ratings with “The Chew” and the “Revolution”! Too bad ABC lost most of their viewers.

  2. ABC made a very bad decision when they cancelled AMC and OLTL. The Chew and shows of that genre do not garner viewer loyalty or viewers…CBS has gained viewers and talented actors.
Bad decisions can, however, be fixed. Come on guys…
