A project based on a Web comic created by a 5-year-old is the first animated show to be tapped for Fox’s Saturday night animation block, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

"Axe Cop" is about a police officer who carries an axe and is helped by a team of allies as he battles villains. After debuting online in 2010, the comic series gained fans quickly, the story notes. (To read an episode, click here.)

According to the comic’s website, the series was created by 5-year-old Malachai Nicolle when he started running around the house with a toy fireman axe, telling his comic book artist brother Ethan that he was playing "Axe Cop." Ethan Nicolle is credited as the artist for the Web comic, with Malachai listed as creator and writer.

"Over the course of my week-long visit we cranked out the first four episodes of ‘Axe Cop.’ I posted the comics to my blog and on Facebook and they got great responses," Ethan wrote on the comic’s site.

Fox has ordered six quarter-hour episodes of the series, according to the report. The network has said it plans a 90-minute animation block for late-night on Saturdays, with former Adult Swim execs Nick Weidenfeld and Hend Baghdady overseeing it, THR reports.
