“The X Factor” finally has the superstar judge that Simon Cowell has been maneuvering to land for the Fox show, E! News reports.

Britney Spears has signed a $15 million deal to join the show as a judge for one season, the story says. The deal has been rumored for weeks, as we reported last month.

The E! story reports that the show reached an agreement in principle with Spears weeks ago, and the past few days have been about working out the details.

The report cites a source close to Spears saying: "The contract is signed. There’s been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she’s on. It’s all completed and Britney is beyond excited."

The story adds: “Cowell blew up the show’s cast at the end of its inaugural season, firing judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones. Since then, he’s been searching for the perfect panel in hopes of boosting the show’s second-season ratings.”

Spears will join Cowell and L.A. Reid on the judging panel, the report notes.

  1. No wonder kids are jaded. They see semi talented people get outrageous sums of money just for getting auditioning semi-talented people on a show where teenage girl viewers never pick the best singers. The only artist I would have bought an album from on the Voice was Juliet Simms. The most talented singer was Chris Mann and they came in second and fourth. Never seen X-Factor, stopped seeing Idol a few years ago, now will stop seeing the Voice. What a waste. Katherine McPhee was the best ever to come out of Idol (as seen on Smash – and I hate musicals). Where did she end up her year on Idol?

  2. Hmm…very interesting news. I don’t think Britney is someone who should be judging people on their singing…she’s the queen of lip syncing after all.

  3. Normally, the most successful people on Idol are those who DON’T win. Jennifer Hudson, McPhee, Adam Lambert, etc, etc, etc. It’s tough to name many of the actual winners over all these seasons.
