NBC has announced plans for a new three-hour children’s programming block, the New York Daily News reports. The block, consisting of six new shows aimed at preschoolers, premieres this Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, Saban Brands, the company behind "The Power Rangers," announced separately that it will provide programming for the CW’s five-hour Saturday morning kids’ television block.

NBC’s new shows will debut in the new "NBC Kids" three-hour block, which will air from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new programming has been created with Sprout, the first 24-hour network for children 2 to 5 years old and their families.

One of the new shows is "Noodle and Doodle," which stars a puppet who likes to help in the kitchen and a virtual friend, with the pair making arts and crafts projects and healthy recipes. The show will air at 10 a.m.

Other programs in the NBC block include "Justin Time," about a young boy who imagines traveling through world history, and "The Wiggles," based on the popular children’s music group of the same name, the story notes.

The CW block will be anchored by key franchises such as “Power Rangers” and “Yu-Gi-Oh!,” with other action/adventure and comedy shows to be announced soon, Saban said. The 7 a.m.-noon block is set to launch in fall 2012.

"Saban Brands is back in the kids’ television business in a BIG way!" said Elie Dekel, president of Saban Brands. "The broadcasting block represents a unique opportunity for us to be the premier destination for action/adventure and comedy on Saturday mornings, while delivering what kids want online and on mobile 24/7/365."
